Drawing of my design for “For Eunice, Morning Glory”
Carving the plate
Inking the plate
For those of you unfamiliar with the printmaking process—everything is designed and drawn by me, then carved into linoleum “plate”, and printed onto paper. This process has a very long, beautiful history and I enjoy all of the stages of printmaking. I have always loved drawing, but the plate carving is always such a wonderful experience. There is always an element of surprise when I ink the plate for the first time. I got a printmaking press a few years ago and have loved being able to use thicker papers, like Rives BFK. Rives BFK is a French archival printmaking paper, so your print should last without fading or yellowing.
I make all the prints to order and the ink takes a few days to dry. I have included a few videos on my social media to share the process with you.
